Fair or Unfair: The White Tiger’s Tale

I am a white tiger in the zoo,

An anomaly among the Bengal Tigers and amusement for you,

Being advertised as a rarity,

Gave me the status of a celebrity,

Very few white tigers exist in the wild and captivity,

Raised within walls, many of us are just turned into props for publicity,

Can we be ambassadors for the cousins who thrive in the wild?

Teach humans to be a bit more kind?

Mankind may adore us for our fair fur,

But some ways of humans’ engagement with Mother Earth are difficult for wildlife to concur,

Naturally the genes can be either dominant or recessive,

White tigers are rare in the wild which makes us quite impressive,

We were results of nature’s choice to go with the recessive genes,

By now some humans inbreed us using their own means,

For wildlife, it takes a huge toll,

When humankind want to take nature’s complete control,

It is them not us who get to decide our future,

Sometimes this is not the right way for nature,

This can be harmful for tigers’ health and genetic diversity,

A species thrives if their group is diverse which is important for the sustenance of biodiversity,

Also it is necessary to have viable corridors for wild tigers to move,

Stuck in one region may cause inbreeding, infightings and their health won’t improve,

We are the same species as Panthera tigris

A pigmentation condition known as Leucism makes us different from other regular Bengal tigers,

Tigers are nature’s allies,

Humans’ coexistence with wildlife is where the real path lies,

Stay away from the greed to take over all the natural resources,

Humans will sustain longer only if they respect the environment and join its forces,

As creatures born with mutations and generally surviving in various places under incarcerations,

We wish to see an increase in the free wild tiger population in various locations,

If there is a thought that all wild creatures are there to subdue,

That is an attitude that humans must undo,

There is a message for human beings that I would like to share,

Please take care and be fair to the biodiversity out there…
